Summer 2020 Update

It is with tremendous sadness that I have to share the news that our NWAL season has been canceled. The board met this week with all of the division reps and voted to cancel the 2020 season due to COVID-19 related closures and shelter-in-place orders. While this is obviously very difficult news for so many of our swimmers I can tell you this – TAAF has not yet canceled the summer swim season or the Games of Texas and a final decision will be made no later than June 1 on TAAF. I have also gotten the chance to speak with a couple of other teams in our region and there is interest in hosting local meets – health restrictions permitting – this summer.

So – while this is obviously not how any of us pictured this swim season or frankly, this year, would look. I can tell you that I will do everything I can to make sure our swimmers have some type of opportunity to swim and compete this summer. Like many things in our lives right now, what that opportunity looks like may be very different than what we’ve been accustomed to in the past and again - like many other things right now, won’t become clear until more information is available from our public health officials in the coming weeks.

Know that my heart breaks to deliver this news to you because I know that each of you now has to explain to your children why yet another piece of their lives will now be a much different version of what they know and love.

I will provide updates as more information is available and I pray that you and your families are staying safe, healthy, and sane during this difficult time.
