    Swimming Tuesday November 12th

Okay, I know it is a bit cold out there, but I think we will be good to swim tonight. The wind is supposed to die down and that should keep the windchill under control. I wanted to give out a bit of winter swim advice to folks who may not have swam with us last year.

For the most part we will keep the swimmers moving in the water to keep them warm. The water temp at the mid 80’s does a pretty good job of keeping them warm in the pool. It is more when they are getting out and getting in.

When they are first getting in, they need to have everything ready before jumping in. Cap on, goggles on, basically ready to go. Its best to have a towel wrapped as they come over to the pool. When they get there. Jump in. don’t sit around, don’t try to slide in, just jump in. I can guarantee that the pool is significantly warmer than outside. The longer you stay out, the colder you will feel. Also, make sure they have gone potty before they get in. To avoid them getting cold, we are going to probably forgo potty break and stay in the pool. We will probably wrap up a bit earlier to make up for it.

When they are ready to get out, a towel waiting by the pool is recommended. You want them to keep their skin from getting too much exposure to the outside. A quick wrap of a towel will do wonders for keeping them warm. Get something on their feet too. The pool deck can feel pretty cold on bare feet.

Hopefully these rules will help you keep your swimmers from becoming popsicles when they are swimming. All of the coaching staff has swum through the winter ourselves, so we can offer some more tips if you have any questions.

If it is any consolation, we have to stand up on the cold deck in the weather while they are comfy in the pool.

Take care and we will see you tonight.

P.S. I haven’t been able to decide on a make-up day this week yet. I’ll let you know shortly, however.
